Clinical Pharmacist Team

The Clinical Pharmacist Team provide a clinical pharmacist service across the North Wiltshire area covering the Malmesbury, Royal Wootton Bassett, Purton and Cricklade areas. They provide a Duty Pharmacist Monday to Friday dealing with urgent prescription requests/queries from patients. The rest of the team deal with patient medication reviews, pain management and further routine prescription queries/requests contacting patients by phone or if deemed necessary, face to face. This service provides an improvement to patient access/waiting times, as they do not have to wait to speak to a GP.
First Contact Physio Team

The First Contact Physio (FCP) Team commenced their service at Tinkers Lane Surgery in July 2020 on a Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. Patients can book into this service directly via reception for any initial musculo-skeletal issues instead of going through the GP in the first instance, providing improved patient access and cutting down waiting times. They can also refer patients on to secondary physio care if clinically necessary.

In addition to the staff who are situated at our premises, we have a large support network of district nurses, health visitors, community midwife, social workers, counsellor, NHS podiatrist, physiotherapist, and others, who provide a wide range of community-based services throughout the practice area.
Their duties include visiting patients in their home to provide practical assistance and/or professional advice, as well as providing regular clinics within the surgery, for example baby immunisations or antenatal care. Appointments and messages for this team are taken by the receptionists.

Specialist nursing care can be arranged through your GP or the district nursing team. The Prospect Community Clinical Nurse Specialists provide a 7 day service and can be contacted by telephone (01793) 816126 (OOH) 01793 816109.
Practice Nurse Team

We employ a team of very experienced nurses who work very closely with the doctors. They are able to advise you on a variety of health problems. The practice nurses can perform a variety of procedures including vaccinations, ear syringing, cervical smears, dressing to wounds, blood pressure monitoring, chronic disease management, removal of sutures and taking of ECGs. An appointment can be made via the receptionist without referral to the doctors.
Triage Team

The Triage Team comprise of the PAs and the ANP who are specially trained to help and advise you on a range of conditions and diseases. They are particularly helpful in advising on treatment for colds, influenza and other minor illness and conditions. If you have an urgent need to see the doctor or discuss your symptoms you will be asked to speak in the first instance to one of our Triage Team. If they are unable to help you and feel that you need to see a doctor urgently, or at any time in the future, they will arrange for this. They are available for consultation over the phone via the receptionists.
Healthcare Assistants / Phlebotomist

Our HCAs and Phlebotomist are supervised by the Lead Nurse. They are skilled in blood-taking, injections, monitoring of blood pressure, diabetic foot-care and ECGs. You can see them by appointment via the receptionists.
Reception Team

The reception team are the first point of contact for all patients. They are here to help you in making bookings, answering queries and directing you to the most appropriate service based on your medical needs. They will help you set up your patient online access and update your details so the surgery can keep you informed of new services.
Behind the scenes the team are also responsible for the registration and deduction of patients, liaising with local hospitals, requests from insurance companies and fellow health professionals, contacting patients for outstanding tests and checks, arranging baby immunisations, photocopying, and processing prescription queries ….the list is endless!
Sometimes, receptionists have a very difficult job to do, thank you for remembering that they are only following the doctor’s instructions or the surgery’s protocols.
